The Hunger Games: The Girl On Fire

I am a huge fan of The Hunger Games Trilogy - I read through them so quickly and have re-read them for a second time over winter break. I could go into all the reasons of why I love the books, but I'll simply recommend them to you to see for yourself. The movie adaption is coming out on March 23 and in anticipation for the awesome costumes that the characters will wear, In Style has asked twelve designers to interpret a look that the female protagonist, Katniss Everdeen, dons at a pivotal moment in the beginning of the novel. Tacori Jewelery

I don't like beginning to celebrate Christmas until the evening of Thanksgiving, when the delicious dinner is done and we all sit as a family in the living room to watch Elf. Yet there is no denying that the festive season is quickly approaching. Stores are beginning to displays decorations of green and red as soon as Halloween is done and I can't help but feel rushed into the holiday spirit. While there is nothing I can do to delay celebrating the Christmas season until right around Thanksgiving, I have given in to starting a Christmas List. I am still adding on to my realistic wish list, but I also like to dream and pretend that I live in a perfect world where I can get my hands on Tacori jewels. Around this time of year I always scour jewelery web sites and pick out the pieces that I would get if I could afford to treat myself (or if I had a significant other to gift it to me hehe.)

Tacori has the most beautiful jewelery and within minutes I knew that I wanted every. single. piece. Well, a girl can dream. Until then, I have entered into a Tacori giveaway hosted by the lovely Mara of M Loves M in the hopes that instead of waiting for the day for a man to buy me a piece, I can possibly win it!

Buckle Up: Adventure Calls

When I figured out that I wanted to be a Pan Am stewardess for Halloween, I dove head first into research. Below is the inspiration for my Pan Am costume this past Halloweekend. I have been watching the show weekly and used the ABC.com site as a useful resource for inspiration pictures and the helpful printable version of the Pan Am logo, the stewardess pin and the cap pattern. As previously mentioned, I found my navy suit and gloves in a church rummage sale (a whole bag of stuff for a mere $1) and bought my bag, blouse, and shoes at my local mall (the most expensive of the outfit)

Obvi-Lux

Hello Loves,

I was recently contacted by the people behind a new site called ObviLux (obvious + luxuries.) The site is described as a "social shopping community that helps people find, save, and share clothing and beauty products. It was created by a group of design students in San Francisco who want to make online shopping and sharing easier for us."

What I personally like about the site is how I am able to organize various types of clothing, group it into different style sections, and see everything in one given space. It is a great place for me to see what clothes and beauty items are out there and for me to keep track of them in their own individual folders. While I prefer in-store shopping over online shopping, being a part of ObviLux helps keep ideas of the styles that I'm into at the moment and want to buy fresh in the forefront of my mind. Royal Fever

If I could be anyone for a day, it would definitely be Kate Middleton on her wedding day. She looked stunning in her Alexander McQueen gown and her makeup and hair was flawless. She and Prince William looked so in love and their day must have been magical. Ah, to become a Duchess!

Milan Fashion Week

Hello Darlings!

This past weekend was filled with fun activities, new destinations, and a lot of walking around. First stop was Milan for Fashion Week! I live in New York City and am sad to say that I have never been into Manhattan during Fashion Week. I know, what is wrong with me? I knew that I had to make it to Milan to experience my first one and honestly, I don't know if I'll ever be back in Milan around this time again. Aside from all of the blogs and magazines that I read regarding fashion weeks, I wasn't sure what to expect. The weather was unpleasantly chilly and brisk so my pea coat sadly covered up the outfit that I was wearing. The day was long; we took the slow train from Florence to Milan at 8:35am and arrived at 12:30. It was annoying but it was the least expensive mode of transportation so we took advantage of that.

The Duomo

The first thing that we did once we arrived into the city was to check out the city's Duomo. Absolutely beautiful and stunning. As in love as I am with Florence's Duomo, Milan put that one to shame. I can't even begin to describe how beautiful it was so I'll let the pictures try to explain. Afterwords, we walked around the city for a bit and soaked in the buzz generating from the fashion tents. We stopped by a Loreal sponsored make up tuutorial where they were explaining and demonstrating a model's makeup. Next was a small exhibit of Karl Lagerfeld's photography and after was exploring a building that was getting ready for a show later in the evening. We got to go to the empty backstage - no models but exciting none-the-less. The rest of the day was spent walking around Milan and sightseeing.

All in all, Fashion week was fun, but a little uneventful. We couldn't get into any of the shows, and I wished that they had more interactive things for all of the devoted wannabees (like myself) to do. As much as I wanted to get into the shows and be a part of all of the fashion events, there is something so thrilling knowing that it is an exclusive industry and not everyone can be apart of it. This just makes me want to break into the fashion industry even more!

Notes From A Fashion Studentessa: Ferragamo Museum

Ciao Beauties,

For my fashion class earlier today, I had to present an assignment on current fashion news. I chose a review from London Fashion Week that is stating that the unknown designer, Erdem, potentially lined up to design Kate Middleton's wedding dress. It turned out that I was to present next week as the class was going on a trip to the Salavtore Ferragamo Museum. It was just a couple of blocks down from our classroom - I can't believe how close our classroom is to all of these high fashion stores.

The museum was fabulous! However, it wasn't what I expected; I thought I'd be looking at dozens of displays of shoes but instead it was a bunch of rooms that explained the history of Ferragamo's family and his business, videos of how a shoe is perfectly crafted, interactive displays where you can see various videos of premiers and commentaries on the shoes, a mini movie theater where it had three short films, and displays of some of his famous shoes (the Cinderella glass slipper from the1998 movie, Ever After was on display as well as a red heel that Nicole Kidman wore in the 2008 movie Australia - I got to touch that one!)

Notes from 02/02/11:

• When we get bored, we want change; without change there is no fashion
• What makes fashion interesting is that it is always changing
• One has style by wearing fashionable clothes suited to themselves
• People who have good taste also understand quality and simplicity
• Individual taste is often referred to as personal style
• Classics are pieces that are not datable while fads come and go

Notes from 02/09/11:

• There are two types of Fashion Leaders: the fashion innovators and the fashion role models
• Fashion Innovators use unique fashion to create their style, may be new and out of the ordinary
• Fashion Role Models use fashion that mass consumers can follow, they set realistic trends
• To create personal style, you can use other people's clothing as inspiration and decide what works best for you
• Wear your clothes, don't let your clothes wear you
• Be a master of your own appearance
• Fashion victims blindly follow trends without thinking and only buy a brand because it is a brand

• The thinner the fiber, the softer the material
• Chose vactuna over cashmere as it is softer and more valuable (also much more expensive)

Emma Watson's Style

Hello Darlings,

One of my favorite style icons (as well as role models) is Emma Watson. I grew up watching her in the Harry Potter films and have consistently taken note of her style growth. Although I am not a fan of her new pixie haircut, I love staying up to date on her life as an actress and as a co-ed.
